Waneta Ann Deitch Bennett, passed from this world to her heavenly home on July 13, 2008. One of eight siblings, Waneta was born to Ross and Rose Deitch on December 22, 1920 in Martins Ferry, Ohio where she attended Martins Ferry High School. She was a cheerleader in high school. She married Charles E. Chuck Bennett of Martins Ferry on November 4, 1938. Her caring spirit was evidenced in her occupations over the years. She owned and taught at Kiddie Kollege kindergarten in New Orleans in association with St. Charles Avenue Christian Church. She and her family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1961 where she was a house mother to 16 teenage boys at Juliette Fowler Home for children. Several years later, she joined the staff of the Baylor College of Dentistry as a clinical supervisor, a position from which she retired in 1992. Over the years, she nurtured many students through their classes in the orthodontics department at Baylor. In the summer of 2006, she and Chuck moved to Abilene, Texas where she lived with her son, Ross. She and Chuck were longtime members of the East Dallas Christian Church and they joined Brook Hollow Christian Church on their arrival in Abilene.
Waneta was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, and her youngest son, Charles Allen Chuck, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Ross and his wife Joann of Abilene; daughter, Cindy Wall and husband Sampy of Houston; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, July 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South in Abilene. A memorial service will be conducted at Brook Hollow Christian Church, 2310 South Willis in Abilene on Tuesday, July 15 at 10:00 a.m. Service schedule in Dallas will be: visitation at Restland Funeral Home, 9220 Restland Road, Richardson, Texas, on Thursday, July 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a memorial service at East Dallas Christian Church on Friday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brook Hollow Christian Church or East Dallas Christian Church.
