Wayne Oglesby

Aubry Wayne Oglesby, 62 years of age went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 4, 2010. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 7th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday in the Reflection Garden of Elmwood Memorial Park followed by a 3:00 PM Memorial service at Calvary Baptist Church, 1165 Minter Lane.

Wayne was born February 21, 1948 in Big Spring, Texas to Dan and Opal Oglesby. Wayne considered Coahoma, Texas to be his hometown. Coahoma is where he was on the track team that went to state in the mile relay and played football under Spike Dykes. Wayne surrendered to preach the gospel when he was 18 years old. He graduated from Coahoma High School in 1968 and went on to attend HardinSimmons University in Abilene, Texas where he majored in Bible and minored in Greek. He began his first pastorate at Bradshaw Baptist Church as a freshman at HardinSimmons. He met the love of his life Lynn Rouse when they were chosen to be on a mission team to Indiana. Wayne and Lynn married on June 21, 1969 in Abilene.

Wayne and Lynn served as pastor and wife for the next 36 years at Champion Baptist Church, First BaptistTuscola, First BaptistMilford, First BaptistTrent, Oak Street BaptistColorado City, Hillcrest BaptistSan Angelo, Calvary Baptist Church in Abilene for 12 years, and Chapel of the Hill BaptistLake Buchanan. They returned to Abilene in 2002 where Wayne continued in ministry as interim pastor at various times at First BaptistHawley, Crescent Heights Abilene and First Baptist Leuders. He was a regular speaker for the Gideon organization which he believed in so strongly. He has also touched many lives through his service as Chaplain at Elmwood Funeral Home and as Chaplain for Hospice of the Big Country, which he considered the purest form of ministry that God ever gave to him. It was his joy and his calling to bring comfort and peace to those who had lost loved ones and he was so gifted by God that he could preach the funeral of someone he had never known and yet it seemed he had known them all of their lives. Wayne will be missed by countless people who had always hoped that he would be there to preach their funeral. At the time of his death he was still chaplain at Hospice and also was the pastor of First Baptist Church Leuders a ministry which brought him much joy and peace in the last few years of his life. During his years of ministry nothing brought him greater joy then to take youth from the church to Falls Creek, Glorieta, ski trips to Colorado and New Mexico, and many mission trips to Piedras Negras, Mexico, El Paso, and San Francisco. While serving in San Angelo, Wayne led two mission trips to Fortaleza, Brazil where the mission team constructed a church that is still thriving today. Waynes life was always a life of ministry to others in order that they may know the Jesus that he knew so well. When Wayne walked into the presence of his Savior on the morning of March 4, 2010 he was greeted by a God that he knew intimately and was able to say to him Well done thy good and faithful servant.

Wayne Oglesby was a loving, protecting, selfsacrificing, giving, understanding, supportive, best friend and husband to his Special Angel Lynn.

Dad was a little league coach, a soccer coach, a football coach, a dad to those who needed a dad, our spiritual guide, our first phone call, our teacher of faith and prayer, our biggest fan next to mom, our discipline, our leader in word and in silence, our teacher of how to love well. He taught us how to fight to win with grace and if we lost keep your chin up. He wasnt just a fatherhe was our Daddyand it takes someone special to be a daddy.

To his grandson Cutter, Pawpaw was always happy, always took us to the zoo and Chuck E. Cheese, loved to see us happy, and loved to spend time laughing with his family.

His granddaughter Chass says, Poppy, I love you more.

Daddy, We love you, God loves you and you were rightthe Son did come up this morning.

Wayne was preceded in death by his dad Dan Oglesby, his stepdad Ray Dunlap, his motherinlaw and fatherinlaw, Millie and Reuben Albert Rouse, his brother Bob Medlin his nephew, officer Darren Medlin and hundreds and hundreds of others whose last voice they heard before they walked into heaven was that of Brother Wayne.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lynn Oglesby of Abilene two sons, Rusty Oglesby and his wife Treci and Dusty Oglesby all of Frisco two grandchildren, the greatest joys of his life, Cutter, 12, and Chassiti, 9 his mother, Opal Dunlap of Burnet his sister, Danna Brown and her husband Wayne of Leander two step sisters, Debbie Butler of Odessa and Danna Martin of Midland brotherinlaw, Mike Rouse and wife Kim of San Diego, CA many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and countless number of adopted kids in the Lord and his best buddy, a wiener dog named Samson.
