Wayne Steele

Wayne R. Steele, 77, of Abilene passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 in Abilene.

A graveside service will be held Friday, March 6, at 2:00 PM at the Texas Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Visitation will be prior to the service on Friday, from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Wayne was born on September 13, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Clayton H. Steele and Geneva Yocum Steele. He graduated from high school and enlisted in the Air Force. Wayne married Shirley Bray on June 15, 1957 in Fakenham, England. He retired after 26 years from the Air Force and they settled in Abilene. Wayne worked at Dyess for another 20 years as a civilian until his retirement. He was a Christian.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Shirley Steele; daughter, Jackie Cox and husband Doug of Colorado; son, Gary Steele of Abilene; grandchildren, Greg Wiles, Lauren Wiles, Michael Steele, Krissy Steele, Emily Steele; brother, Ed Haught and wife Shirley; sister, Carol Alley.
