William R. Adkins “Bill”, 82, passed away May 9, 2022. A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, May 16, 2022 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Bill was born to Ray Lee and Helen Adkins, January 17, 1940 in Abilene, Texas where he was also raised. He attended AHS schools from 1946- 1957 when he said he decided the Army needed him more than school. Bill joined the Army Reserves and served as a Truck Driver till 1962 where he was honorably discharged. After the military he worked several jobs, mostly oil and gas related. His last and longest place of employment was working as the Parking Lot Custodian at A.H.S for 10 years. He was an avid football and baseball fan. He loved and owned antique cars and was involved in all the activities of the Keepers Car Club.
In March 1979 he and Etta met while bowling on opposite teams and were married one month later April 7, 1979. He has one son, Greg of Dallas; one daughter, Dana Freeman of Hawkins; one brother, Nobel Adkins of Mesquite, TX. Bill embraced Ronald and Benje Campbell and Susie and Keith Jones, and their families as his own. Bill was raised in a Christian and church going family. He can honorably still quote many Bible verses learned as a child. Other surviving relatives are his aunt, Ann Brown of the Dallas area; and cousins, Donna of Midland, and Bob Adkins of the Dallas area.
