William Crow

Sgt. William Wayne Crow, 28, was killed in Baghdad, on Thursday, June 28, 2007 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device while serving on his 3rd tour in Iraq. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 10th at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South. Burial with full military honors will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Sgt. Crow was born on February 11, 1979 in Florida. He enlisted in the United States Army on April 26, 2001 and was then assigned to the Infantry Training Brigade in Fort Benning, Georgia. He completed his training as an infantryman and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment in Camp Casey, Korea on June 29, 2001. On August 22, 2002, he was then assigned to Alpha Company Avalance, 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment in Fort Riley, and later deployed with them to Iraq. After his return, he was later assigned to Alpha Company Outlaws, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, and served in 2nd Platoon as a Fire-Team Leader. He deployed with his unit on February 6, 2007 to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Crows awards include: the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal, second award, the National Defense Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, second award, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Valorous Unit Award.

Sgt. Crow is survived by his wife, Katherine Michelle Crow; his four children, Christopher, David, Katherine and Kayla; his mother, Kathryn Mondini; his sister, Candace Crow; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kathy David Hicks;

sister-in-law, Tracy Wahbeh; and brother-in-law, David Figueiredo.
