William Michael Glackmeyer, age 74 of Ovalo, Texas, passed away on February 26, 2025, after a life dedicated to service, family and unwavering commitment. William was born on September 2, 1950, in Tampa, Florida to Felix and Mary Glackmeyer. He later moved to Montgomery, Alabama where he graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1970. It was there where he met the love of his life -Kristine Alyce Larsen, and they were married on September 4, 1971.

William enlisted in the United States Army in June, 1970 where he went to basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. William dedicated his life to service, first to his country, then to his family. William served 23 years on active duty in the United States Army retiring as a First Sergeant. Among his many decorations are the Army Commendation Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, The National Defense Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star, and The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. While serving as an Army Airborne Soldier he was awarded his Master Parachutist Badge recording over 300 jumps during his career. He had multiple deployments including Desert Storm and Grenada. While William was stationed in Germany, he was also awarded the coveted German Armed Forces Marksmanship Badge. William’s time in the Military shaped his character but also forged lasting friendships and instilled in him a profound sense of purpose.

After retirement from the Army, William earned his Associate Degree in Automotive Technology. He worked as an automotive technician for a Chevrolet dealership. He always demonstrated excellent mechanical skills and if it was broken – he could fix it.

William enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed watching football and was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan and Dallas Cowboys fan. He also was a NASCAR Racing fan and worked as a Security guard for NASCAR races at Rockingham Speedway. He loved listening to Classic Rock music – favorites were Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and many others.

William was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Kristine Glackmeyer, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Together they built a loving home and raised three remarkable children – Michelle Marie Leader, Heidi Lynn McCune, and Michael Edward Glackmeyer, also 11 Grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild who carry forward his legacy of strength and integrity.

William was preceded in death by his parents – Felix and Mary Glackmeyer and his brother, Kevin Glackmeyer. He has two surviving brothers- Sean Glackmeyer and Timothy Glackmeyer.

Funeral services to honor William’s life and service will be held on March 13, 2025. Visitation will be at 2:00 – 3:30 Elmwood Funeral Chapel and a Funeral Service will start at 3:30, followed by full military honors. Family, friends and all who wish to pay their respects are invited to join in celebrating the life of this exceptional man. William Michael Glackmeyer will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
