William G. Percy, 68, known by most as “Percy” passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 12, 2021 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
Percy was born September 25, 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia to Lorenza and Paralee Percy. He graduated in 1971 from Booker T. Washington High School and joined the United States Air Force soon after graduating. Percy married the love of his life Sylvia, whom he had known since 1970, on September 20, 1975. The couple spent 45 wonderful years together and had 3 children. In 1985 Percy was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base where he remained until his retirement in 1995. After retiring from the military he worked at Lockheed Martin for a short time and then moved to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department. Percy was a part of the Mason organization. He enjoyed singing, playing cards, barbeques, listening to music, spending time with friends, but most of all his family. He was a huge sports fan and especially loved the Oakland Raiders which he still referred to as Oakland. Percy loved his family and his dogs more than anything. He was very loved and will be missed forever.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lorenza Percy Sr.; his brother, Lorenza Percy Jr.; his nephew, Lorenza Percy III.
Percy is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Percy; his mother, Paralee Percy; his children, Sabrina Fletcher, Shonda Myers, Jamar Percy, and William Kemp; his grandchildren, Xanaan Fletcher, and Kevin Myers Jr.; sister in law, Deanna Percy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that he considered family.
