William F. Smith, 74, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 15, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
William was born June 13, 1941 in Ripley, Tennessee to Joe and Alice Leona (Lovell) Smith. He joined the United States Air Force in March of 1963. He served over 20 years in aircraft maintenance, earning the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Overseas Long Tour Ribbon and Air Force Longevity Service Award. He retired from service in May of 1984.
William married Alicia Gallardo on August 23, 1975 while stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. The couple returned to Abilene when he was reassigned to Dyess Air Force Base.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alicia; two sons, Jeff Gallardo and wife Candace of Vancouver, Washington; Robert Smith and wife Aimee of Puyallup, Washington; a daughter, Stacey Lenderman and husband Tim of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Lindsie, Rebecca, and Brandon, all of Oregon; Shelby of Houston; and Addisyn of Washington. He is also survived by niece, Kathy Jackson and husband Ernie of Tennessee; and nephew, Keith Stokes of Tennessee.
William was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rebecca Stokes.
