Willie Hunter Jr.

October 26, 1941 — October 22, 2015

Willie James Hunter Jr., born October 26, 1941, the second child to Willie & Dorothy Hunter in Snyder, Texas. His family later moved to Abilene where Willie called home. He grew up in Macedonia Baptist Church where he learned about God. He graduated from Woodson High School in 1962.

He attended Cisco College & Bishop College until he was drafted in the Army and fought in the Vietnam War from 1967-1969. He loved to share his combat stories because he came back a war hero. He received 2 Bronze Medals and a Purple Heart. Because of his bravery he suffered many disabilities, but remained a true fighter until the end. On 10-22-2015 Willie lost his last fight.
In 1970 he moved to Banning, Ca where he met and married Charlene Johnson Hunter in 1972. They were married for 36 years. In 2009 he returned home to Abilene where he married his childhood sweetheart Sandra Cotton on August 23, 2009. Willie worked as a Counselor for several years in Banning and had fond memories. He also worked for 15 years as an installer for AT&T before becoming disabled.
Willie will be remembered for his love of people. He never met a stranger and he loved to talk. You were always welcome to stop by and talk. He never forgot his friends and classmates. He loved you all and he loved Abilene. Willie lived his life and is known for his dancing.

His father Willie, Mother Dorothy, Brother Edward preceded him.

He leaves to remember his wife, Sandra; daughter, Tamara Hunter; Sons, Reginald and Patrick Hunter; Three stepsons, Gary& Jarmar Walton and Andre Bluitt; One brother, Petty Hunter (Tonya); Two sisters, Barbara Hunter Reagor (Thea) and Sandra Lover; Sister in law, Mildred Cotton-James; Two granddaughter, April Hunter and Koterea Hunter ; Two grandsons, , Patrick Hunter and Braylen Hunter; three great grandchildren, DJ, Lia and K'sen Hunter; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday, November 06, 2015 at 12 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Texas Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. A visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church.
