Willis "Wid" D Hart, 92, of Abilene passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, September 29, 2017, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Born in DeSoto, Illinois, on August 24, 1925, to John and Nora Hart. Willis grew up in Carmi, Illinois where he graduated High School. He served our country in the US Navy during World War II where he served with General McArther in the Pacific Campaign as a Pharmacists Mate. After the war, he returned to Carmi where he began dating Jo Ann Ritsch and they were married in 1953. He had a long career working with the US Postal Service, retiring in 1983. While working for the Postal Service the family relocated to Carlsbad New Mexico for many years prior to moving to Abilene in 1991. He enjoyed visiting at Rose Park Senior Center, playing golf, spending time outdoors and gardening. He loved and enjoyed taking care of his animals. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan since the age of 5 and was able to witness them breaking the 108-year drought in 2016, stating that his life was now complete.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and one great grandson, Dylan.
Willis is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Hart; one daughter, Valerie Hart Mobley and husband James L. of Abilene; one granddaughter, Monica Mobley and Fiancé Matt Barron of Big Spring; one grandson, Wes R. Mobley and wife Melissa of Abilene; and three great grandchildren, Austin, Chelsea, and Ava.
