Winnie Ruth Cagle, 84, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010 in Abilene. Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 22 at the Hillcrest Church of Christ, 650 E. Ambler. The family will be at Hillcrest from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Monday for visitation. Arrangements are with Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Winnie was born in Waco, Texas on April 6, 1926 the daughter of James Clarence Rogers and Elizabeth Fay Shaw Rogers. She grew up in Big Spring and married Howard Glen Cagle there on May 28, 1945. She worked for Abilene Christian University for 32 years, most of those years as the administrative assistant to Dean of Students, Garvin V. Beauchamp. While at ACU, she was instrumental in forming the organization Women of ACU. Always faithful in her service to the Lord, Winnie was an active member of Woodlawn Church of Christ for 20 years and Hillcrest Church of Christ for the past 30 years.
Winnie had many talents, she loved to sing and had a beautiful voice, and was an excellent seamstress using her gift over the years to put together many Sing Song costumes. She loved to play games and was an avid traveler.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Howard Glen Cagle two children, Becky Jane Douglass and husband Gary of Amarillo, and Terry Lee Cagle and wife Becki of Arlington four grandchildren who lovingly called her TuTu, Michelle Chaney and husband C.J. of Abilene, Paul Douglass and wife Kim of Amarillo, Courtney Drysdale and husband Jason of Denver, Colorado, and Carlee Cagle of Abilene three great grandchildren, Alyssa, Caleb and Evan Chaney all of Abilene three sisters, Jimmie Fay Frazier of Arlington, Rebecca Ann Hudson of Garland and Patricia Nell Anderson and husband Jimmy of Big Spring and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
