Yvonne Oberschmid

August 2, 1925 — July 9, 2009


Yvonne Ruth Oberschmid, 83, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009 in Abilene. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 14th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with entombment following in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Yvonne was born on August 2, 1925 in Union Town, Alabama the daughter of Ruben Spencer Overstreet and Hattie Addison Overstreet. She married John Oberschmid on May 21, 1949 in Mobile, Alabama, and they lived in various places while John served our country in the U.S. Air Force; they remained in Abilene when John retired in 1971 after being stationed at Dyess. Yvonne was a very competitive person and thoroughly enjoyed using her athletic abilities as a member of the softball and bowling teams in the Dyess Womans League. She also enjoyed playing Bridge.

Yvonne was a happy, positive and optimistic person. She was a loving and compassionate wife, mother and grandmother, always putting her family first and many times making personal sacrifices so that her children had what they needed.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John Oberschmid of Abilene; her daughter, Nettie Edwards and husband Wayland of San Antonio; her son, John Oberschmid of Abilene; her grandson, Jon Todd Edwards of San Antonio; two sisters, Nita Trenner of Sacramento, California and Jeanette Alonzo of Mobile, Alabama; and Godsons, Eric and Jay Monkerud.

Her parents and a brother, Earl Overstreet preceded her in death.
