Harold M. Cannon was born June 4, 1929 to Howard Richard (H.R.) and Elpha Mae Cannon in Abilene, Texas. He attended and graduated from Abilene High School. Thanks to a close friend, Harold met the love of his life, Betty Sudderth and knew right away that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. They were married on December 3, 1950 and were together for over 50 years before Betty's passing on November 16, 2001. Upon their return from their honeymoon, Harold's draft notice was waiting for him. On December 14, 1950, Harold reported for duty with the Army and spent almost two years in Germany. Harold got out of the Army and was in the National Guard before his service to his country ended December 3, 1952. In the mid 70's Harold pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot. Harold and Betty were instrumental in establishing the EAA Chapter 471 in Abilene and served as a board member for many years. Harold also served on the Board of several different Credit Unions in Abilene. Harold was an employee of Powers Machine Shop before going to work for Texas Department of Transportation where he retired after 35 years of service in August 1993. Above all things Harold loved his family with his whole heart and will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, H.R. and Elpha Mae Cannon; his wife, Betty Sudderth Cannon; his son, James Robert Cannon; his sister, Faytine (Tina) Maynard; and son in law, Patrick Wilson.
